Darcel has 20+ years as an entrepreneur, building creative opportunities for people to connect through community development, collective impact and integrated events. She grew to know and love Port Coquitlam from her time spent community building in the north neighbourhoods as part of My Neighbourhood, My Future and United Way Avenues of Change (a place-based project that tackled neighbourhood specific factors contributing to childhood vulnerability).
She has a Certificate in Dialogue and Civic Engagement from Simon Fraser University and a BSc in Kinesiology from the University of Waterloo. She is passionate about creating resilient communities and fostering change in services and programs to include all members of society.
Darcel’s family has lived in the Tri-Cities since 1990 where she is happily married to Larry, a SD43 teacher and community soccer coach. Together they are honoured to raise two caring human children and two indifferent felines. She is a board member of Soroptimist International of the Tri-Cities and paddles with Draggin’ Divas dragon boat team.
Unofficially she works on energy systems by challenging whomever will join her on a run, cycle or swim, all in pursuit of her passion as a back-of-the-pack athlete. Darcel invites all of you to the local trails, she guarantees it will keep you energized and inspired!
